Many unsuccessful efforts were also made by Egyptian Pharaohs to establish maritime connections before the Achaemenids. With the conquest of Egypt by Cambyses (529-522 B.C), in the year 525 B.C, it was under the rule of Achaemenids. After the death of Cambyses, Darius I (522-486 B.C) defeated the Gaumat the Magush and became the King. Being informed of the activitie stook place about the digging of the Suez Canal before him, Darius decided to bring this great work to a conclusion. ­Providing the necessary requirement he completed the Pharaohs unfinished works and successfully made the Suez Canal being dug during 10 years. The canal made the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf, the Oman Sea and the Indian Ocean being connected and established the maritime relations between Iran, Egypt, and India and developed commercial relations between these three countries and all areas were located between them and the Suez Canal was then the main crossing of commercial goods were exchanged between western and eastern regions. <br />  ارتباط زمینی میان ایران و مصر مدت­ها پیش از دورۀ هخامنشی برقرار بود. در زمینۀ برقراری ارتباط دریایی نیز پیش از دورۀ هخامنشی تلاش­هایی توسط فراعنۀ مصر صورت گرفته، ولی به دلایل مختلفی این تلاش­ها ناکام مانده بود. با فتح مصر توسط کمبوجیه (529-522 ق.م)، در سال 525 ق.م این کشور تحت تابعیت شاهنشاهی هخامنشی درآمد. پس از مرگ کمبوجیه، داریوش اول (522-486 ق.م) با شکست­دادن گومات مغ به پادشاهی رسید. داریوش با اطلاع از اقدامات انجام گرفته در زمینۀ حفر آبراهۀ سوئز در دوران قبل، تصمیم گرفت تا این کار بزرگ را به نتیجه برساند. وی با فراهم­آوردن مقدمات لازم، کار نیمه­تمام فراعنه را دنبال کرد و با جدیت تمام توانست طی مدت 10 سال حفر آبراهۀ سوئز را با موفقیت به انجام برساند. با حفر این آبراهه، دریای مدیترانه، دریای سرخ، خلیج فارس، دریای عمان و اقیانوس هند به­هم متصل شدند و ارتباط دریایی میان مصر و ایران و هند برقرار شد. پس از افتتاح آبراهۀ سوئز، روابط بازرگانی بین سه کشور مزبور و همچنین مناطقی که بین آن‌ها قرار داشت، گستردگی بیشتری پیدا کرد و آبراهۀ سوئز محل گذر کالاهای تجاری مناطق مختلف غرب به شرق شد. https://jhss.ut.ac.ir/article_36034_3d40cfb1973260b0d98d36a657f64226.pdf
