Journal History

The Journal of Historical Sciences Studies is a biannual scientific-research publication from the Faculty of Literature and Humanities at the University of Tehran. Prior to 2009, articles in the field of historical sciences from the faculty were published within the Journal of the Faculty of Literature. Later, to enhance the quality of publications and specialize their scope, the faculty's journal was split into five separate specialized journals. The Journal of Historical Sciences Studies is one of these. The journal published its first specialized issue in the fall of 2009, with Dr. Mansour Sefat as the Editor-in-Chief and Dr. Manouchehr Akbari as the Managing Director. It has continued its publication under subsequent editors-in-chief, and is currently headed by Editor-in-Chief Dr. Hossein Badamchi.

Description

The Journal of Historical Sciences Studies of the University of Tehran is an open-access, peer-reviewed quarterly journal that publishes scientific-research articles in various fields of history, including social, political, and economic history, historical dynasties, pre-Islamic Iran, Islamic Iran, and the history of Islam.

COPE

This journal, respecting publication ethics, follows the rules and regulations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and adheres to the executive bylaw for preventing and confronting scientific misconduct.

Informed Consent of Research Participants

In the Journal of Historical Sciences Studies, all participants in studies and research involving human subjects have the right to privacy, which researchers must not violate without their informed consent. Identifying details of participants, such as names, etc., should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, or genealogies unless the information is scientifically essential and the participants (or their parent or guardian) have provided written informed consent for publication. The participants' consent form should be stored in writing by the journal office, at the researchers' workplace, or in both locations, in accordance with national or local regulations.

Adherence to Ethical Principles and Informed Consent

Compliance with medical ethics principles, anonymity, and patient confidentiality are essential considerations. In this regard, the code for the protection of human subjects, derived from the Helsinki Declaration, must be observed, and an ethics approval letter from the university's ethics committee must be attached to the submitted article. For studies involving human subjects, informed consent must have been obtained from adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of minors.

Data Citation

Data should be cited in the same manner as articles, books, and websites, and authors should include data citations in their reference list. Data citation is appropriate for data held in institutional, subject-specific, or public data repositories. When citing data or data-based claims, authors should reference the data at the relevant point in the article text and also provide a formal citation in the reference list. This journal follows the format suggested by the Joint Declaration of Data Citation Principles:
Authors; Year; Dataset Title; Data Repository or Archive; Version (if available); Persistent Identifier (e.g., DOI).

Data Sharing Policy

The Journal of Historical Sciences Studies follows a basic data sharing policy. The journal is committed to a more open research vision, facilitating faster and more effective research discovery by enabling data, methodology, and reporting standards to be replicated and verified. The journal encourages authors to cite and share their research data, including but not limited to: raw data, processed data, software data, algorithms, protocols, methods, and materials. Authors are encouraged to share data supporting the results or analyses presented in their article or to make them openly available, provided this does not violate the protection of human subjects or other valid privacy or security concerns.
The journal encourages authors to share data and other artifacts supporting the results in the article by archiving them in an appropriate public repository. Authors should include a data availability statement, containing the address or link to the repository they used, to be published alongside their article. The journal requires authors of original research and secondary articles to (1) deposit de-identified data related to the article in a repository, and (2) include a data availability statement in their article explaining how the data can be accessed.
The journal defines data as the digital materials underlying the results described in the article, including spreadsheets, text files, recorded interviews or transcripts, images, videos, data output from statistical software, and computer code and scripts, and expects authors to deposit at least the data required to reproduce the results described in the article. Data can be deposited in any repository that makes data publicly available, including institutional repositories, general public repositories (e.g., Figshare, Open Science Framework, Zenodo, Dryad, Harvard Dataverse, OpenICPSR) or subject-specific repositories. The data availability statement should be placed before the references at the end of the main text. This statement should include (1) an indication of the data's location; (2) a unique identifier, such as a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), accession number, or URL; and (3) any instructions for accessing the data, if applicable. During submission, you will be asked if there is a dataset associated with the manuscript. If yes, you will be asked to provide a pre-registered DOI, link, or other persistent identifier related to the dataset(s). If you choose to provide a pre-registered DOI, please be prepared to share the reviewer URL associated with your data deposit if requested by reviewers. Where one or more datasets are associated with an article, these are not formally peer-reviewed as part of the submission process. It is the author's responsibility to ensure the data's accuracy. Any errors in the data are solely the responsibility of the dataset producer(s).
Note: As you are submitting your manuscript to a journal that uses double-blind peer review, the main text file should not contain any identifying author information (e.g., names, affiliations, conflicts of interest, and email addresses). Since the data availability statement could reveal your identity, we recommend removing it from the anonymized version of your manuscript. Exceptions to this policy are granted in rare cases where de-identified data cannot be shared due to their proprietary nature or participant privacy concerns. Exceptions and data access restrictions are granted for reasons related to human privacy protection, biosecurity, and/or compliance with terms of use for data obtained under third-party licenses. Confidential data, e.g., data on human individuals or patients, must always be anonymized, or sharing permission must be obtained in advance. If in doubt, authors should seek advice from their institution's/university's ethics committee. Authors should have a data availability statement, including a link to the repository they used, so it can be published alongside their article. Some examples are provided below.

  1. The data associated with this article are available in the Open Science Framework at [URL].

  2. The data supporting this study's findings are openly available in [Repository Name] at http://doi.org/[doi], reference number [Reference Number].

Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process

When authors use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, these tools should only be used to improve readability and language. The use of AI technology must be accompanied by human supervision and control. Authors are responsible for carefully reviewing and editing the results, as AI can generate seemingly credible outputs that can be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship entails responsibilities and tasks that are exclusively attributed to and performed by humans. Authors must disclose their use of AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by following the provided guidelines. A statement confirming this use will appear in the published article. It is essential to understand that authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the content of their work.

Guidelines for AI Use Disclosure:
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process in the final version of their manuscript by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript, before the reference list. This statement should be placed in a new section entitled "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process."

Declaration: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [Tool/Service Name] in order to [Reason]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication. This declaration does not apply to the use of auxiliary tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, etc. If there is nothing to disclose, no declaration needs to be added.
